Jammu and Kashmir’s development has entered a dynamic phase under the administration of Lt Governor Manoj Sinha. The erudite public man that Sinha is, he had propelled Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP’s dream to see J&K become an equally developed and progressive part of India. While a comprehensive panchayati Raj system system has been put in place thereby giving charge of development to people, the next step being worked out is to map the growth and work of the Panchayats. For this a Panchayat Development Index will be ready on the lines of District Good Governance Index. This is agreat idea for it will make elected village bodies work harder and think of ideas to boost development and for the government it will help in assessing the impact of the centrally sponsored schemes on the ground. Panchayati Raj is in its fancy in J&K and it’s the best time to set parameters to measure the work and impact of the schemes being implemented.
