Department of Environmental Sciences, GDC Udhampur, in collaboration with IQAC and NSS unit under the patronage of Prof. Dr Ramesh Kumar Gupta celebrated 5th of June as World Environment Day under the theme of the year: “land degradation, desertification and Drought resilience”.
The programme was officially started by Prof. Asha Sohil, Head Department of Environmental Sciences by welcoming all the students that included the students of second semester, students of NSS unit and students from PG Department of Hindi and Chemistry. The schedule of the program was divided into two phases. The students of the college conducted a cleanliness drive in the college campus in the first phase to mark the initiative of restoring the degraded lands into more healthy forms. The purpose of the cleanliness drive was to spread awareness among the community and young generation towards the restoration of unhealthy, unproductive and polluted lands towards more productive, healthy land for sustainable future. Protecting the land Resource is also one of the sustainable developmental goals.
In the second half of the event, a poster and slogan writing competition was held, all the students participated with great fervour. The slogan writing competition was evaluated by Prof. Shobna Sambyal, Head Department of Zoology and Prof. Tania Mahajan. The first position was secured by Ridhima Rathore (Semester 2nd), Suman Manhas and Simran Bharti (Semester 2nd) shared 2nd position while Khushi Puri and Renu Devi (2nd Semester) secured 3rd position. For Poster Making Competition, 1st and 2nd position was secured by Shapali Thakur and Ahina Firdous from PG department of Chemistry. Prof. Babu Lal Thakur, Head Department of Education, was the chief guest and Prof. Shobna Samyal was guest of honour of the event.
