New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday stressed that it was not an ordinary thing that the party which was in power for ten years was voted back to power for the third consecutive term and said it happened after many decades in the history of independent India and parliamentary journey.
Opposition benches protested as PM Narendra Modi attributed the NDA’s victory to people’s trust.
PM Modi also took a veiled attack on the opposition alliance INDIA bloc for trying to black out this decision given by the public.
During his reply to the Motion of Thanks on President’s Address, PM Modi said, “In the history of independent India and parliamentary journey, it has happened after many decades that the public has given the mandate to a government for the third consecutive time. After 60 years, it has happened that the government has returned after being in power for 10 years. I realise this is not an ordinary thing. Some people deliberately tried to black out this decision given by the public…”
“In the last two and a half days, around 70 MPs participated in this discussion. I express gratitude to all of you MPs for enriching this discussion on the President’s Address,” PM Modi said.
When Leader of the Oppostion in the House Mallikarjun Kharge attempted to intervene he was not given an opportunity by the Chair to speak leading to protests from the Opposition benches.
Meanwhile, as proceedings of Rajya Sabha began this morning, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhhar offered condolences on the loss of lives in the stampede in Hathras in Uttar Pradesh.
Kharge called on the government to enact legislation aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future.
Prime Minister addressed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday following which the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die. Speaker Om Birla said it recorded a productivity of 103 per cent.
