Jammu, 24 July : In a heartfelt tribute to the indomitable spirit of brave soldiers, the 36 NCC cadets of 2 J & K Girls Bn. and 40 NCC cadets of 1J&K Girls Bn. Srinagar of Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Govt. College for Women, Gandhinagar, along with Dr. S P Sarswat , the Principal of the College ; Sh. Seva Dass Digra Retd. ADG Geological Survey of India Member Central Govt Pensioner Welfare Association, Jammu commemorated the 25th anniversary RAJAT JAYANTI of Kargil Vijay Diwas by organizing a poignant and environmentally significant plantation drive titled ‘Ek Ped Shaheed Ke Naam.’
This noble initiative saw the enthusiastic cadets adopting saplings of fruits in the name of the gallant heroes who laid down their lives for the nation, symbolizing both remembrance and environmental stewardship. The plantation drive was a touching homage to the valor and sacrifice of the soldiers who fought in the Kargil War. Each sapling planted by the cadets was dedicated to a specific martyr, ensuring that their legacy lives on through these burgeoning symbols of life and growth.
In a solemn pledge, the cadets vowed to nurture and protect their adopted saplings, ensuring they grow into strong, enduring trees. This pledge highlighted the dual purpose of the drive: commemorating the past while securing a Greener Future. By connecting the act of planting trees with the remembrance of war heroes, the initiative fostered a sense of duty and responsibility towards both the nation and the environment. The cadets learned valuable lessons in perseverance, dedication, and the importance of sustainable living, ensuring these values are carried forward to future generations.
Dr. S P Sarswat appreciated the efforts of cadets and ANOs Lt. Suman Bala and CT Dr. Monika Hans. He also impressed that event was a powerful reminder of the enduring spirit of the Kargil heroes and the ongoing commitment of the youth to uphold their legacy through meaningful actions.
