Kathua, August 12 : The Red Ribbon Club of Government Degree College (GDC) Kathua marked International Youth Day by organizing impactful events to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS. The event was organized under the esteemed patronage of Prof.Seema Mir, Principal, GDC, Kathua and convened by Dr. Shiv Kumar, Convener, RRC. A series of Events were organized like the Poster Making Competition and Awareness Rally in which volunteers from RRC, NSS and college cadets participated.
The event began with a vibrant poster-making competition in which 15 students participated. Students showcased their creativity and understanding of HIV/AIDS through their art, highlighting the importance of prevention, destigmatization, and support for those affected by the virus. The posters not only reflected the participants’ artistic talents but also served as powerful educational tools for the college community.
The competition was judged by Dr. R.K. Pandita, Dr. R. K. Manhas, Prof. Shivani Kotwal, Prof. Yashpal in which Shivika Rajput of Vth Semester grabbed the first position, Vishal Gupta of Vth Semester secured second position and Nikita Sharma of Vth Semester stood at third position. Following the competition, a rally was held to further spread awareness about HIV/AIDS. Students, faculty, and community members joined forces, marching through the streets of Kathua with banners and slogans advocating for safe practices, testing, and support for individuals living with HIV. The rally aimed to engage the broader community, encouraging open conversations about the virus and its impact on society. Speaking at the event, Prof. Semma Mir emphasized the importance of youth engagement in health advocacy. “Our young people are the key to a brighter future. Through awareness and education, they can lead the fight against HIV/AIDS, breaking down barriers and creating a more inclusive society,” The Principal applauded the efforts of RRC members, Dr. Shiv Kumar, Prof Ram Krishan, Dr. Daya Ram, Prof. Rakhi Malhotra, Dr. Kamaljot Kour for organizing this event and further extended her gratitude to NSS, PO, Dr. Pinky and Dr. Daya Ram, NCC, ANO for their valuable contribution to make this event a resounding success.
