1,440 +ve cases reported, active cases rise to 3,00,490
As the number of Covid cases continue to decline, J&K recorded 23 fresh deaths, lowest in the past 42 days, taking the toll to 4,074, and a daily spike of 1,440 new positive cases (Jammu division – 338, Kashmir – 1,102) in a span of 24 hours as a result of which number of people infected with the disease rose to 3,00,490.
J&K had reported 21 deaths on April 25, 2021. Earlier lowest this month was 24 fatalities on June 2.
According to the government bulletin on Novel Corona Virus, eight Covid patients died in Jammu region and 15 in Kashmir since last evening as a result of which the UT toll mounted to 4,074.
Of the total 3,00,490 cases, 26,741 are active positive (Jammu division – 9,620, Kashmir – 17,121) and 2,69,675 have recovered (Jammu division – 1,03,288, Kashmir – 1,66,387).
Jammu district recorded 70 cases, Udhampur – 13, Rajouri – 46, Doda – 47, Kathua – 21, Samba – 16, Kishtwar – 10, Poonch – 70, Ramban – 27 and Reasi – 18, according to official media bulletin on coronavirus.
Jammu district now has 51,556 cases (4,033 are active positive, 46,426 have recovered, 1,097 have died), Udhampur – 10,817 (426 are active positive, 10,263 have recovered, 128 have died), Rajouri – 10,108 (846 are active, 9,068 have recovered, 194 have died), Doda – 6,049 (1,030 are active, 4,926 have recovered, 93 have died), Kathua – 8,958 (247 are active, 8,565 have recovered, 146 have died), Samba – 6,884 (845 are active, 5,925 have recovered, 114 have died), Kishtwar – 4,140 (264 are active, 3,841 have recovered, 35 have died), Poonch – 5,608 (1,014 are active, 4,514 have recovered, 80 have died), Ramban – 5,367 (636 are active, 4,675 have recovered, 56 have died) and Reasi – 5,402 (279 are active, 5,085 have recovered, 38 have died).
In the valley, Srinagar district recorded 264 cases, Baramulla – 136, Kulgam – 140, Shopian – 20, Anantnag – 86, Kupwara – 103, Pulwama – 123, Budgam – 145, Bandipora – 40 and Ganderbal – 45.

Jammu is presently the worst affected district in terms of mortality rate with 1,097 deaths, followed by Srinagar district at 798 deaths and Baramulla which has recorded 264 deaths.
Ten districts of Jammu have so far reported 1,981 fatalities while 2,093 people have lost their lives due to Covid-19 in 10 districts of Kashmir.

From August 1 t0 14 (excluding August 10), 11 died in Jammu and 121 in Kashmir. On August 10, 10 died in Jammu while on August 15 and 16, 22 people died in J&K. From August 17 to 31, 25 died in Jammu and 136 in Kashmir.

Seven died in Jammu and 54 in Kashmir in June, except for June 12 when Rajouri witnessed first Covid death with a 65-year-old man of Sialsui, Kalakote, dying due to infection and June 19 and June 20 when six and four Covid patients respectively died in J&K.
Two died in Jammu and 16 in Kashmir from May 11 to May 29. The Covid toll rose to nine in J&K on May 7. It rose to eight on April 28 with a woman’s death at Rainawari. An old man died on April 25 in SKIMS.
J&K recorded first Covid death on March 25, 2020 with the death of a Hyderpora man. A Tangmarg resident died on March 29. A 54-year-old Bandipora resident died at SMHS hospital. On April 8, a 61-year-old woman from Udhampur died at GMCH, Jammu.
