Kargil Vijay Diwas Celebrated at Udhampur

Udhampur, July 26 : Rajat Jayanti Mahotsav was celebrated with traditional fervour at the Udhampur Military station on 26 July 2024. The day began with a wreath laying ceremony at the Dhruva War Memorial by Lieutenant General Vijay B Nair, SM, Chief of Staff, Northern Command. Wreaths were laid by officers & men in honour of their gallant fallen comrades who stood up to the true traditions of the Indian Army and made the supreme sacrifice for the Nation in the line of duty. NCC cadets and Veterans joined all ranks of Northern Command in paying befitting tribute. The day has been embossed in gold by the blood of those who never came back and words “For our today, they gave their tomorrow”, truly hold its wight.

          The message from Army Commander Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar, PVSM, AVSM, YSM**, VSM on behalf of all troops deployed in Northern Command was that the spirit of our fallen Bravehearts shall always instill in us a sense of pride, devotion to duty and patriotism in the times to come. Furthermore, he exhorted all ranks deployed in Northern Command to live upto the spirit of   Kargil heroes and always remain steadfast to secure the frontiers even in adverse weather and treacherous terrain against unpredictable enemies.  

          The day is not only special for the Indian Army but for the entire nation as it is the Rajat Jayanti Mahotsav of one of the most challenging battles won in a treacherous terrain, inclement weather and fought from the most tactically disadvantageous positions. The unmatched valour and devotion to the flag and the nation had been displayed by the Indian Army during “Operation VIJAY”.
