IIM Jammu Inaugurated the Second batch of Nurturing Future Leadership Program.

Jammu: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu inaugurated the second batch of Nurturing Future Leadership Program, Under the Aegis of, “The Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme” in an inaugural session held at its permanent campus in Jagti on 10 th June 2024.

The leadership training program is one of the unique residential programs designed to develop the leadership skills of educators at different levels and create a pool of potential leaders for generational transition. The program will be conducted by the faculty of IIM Jammu from June 10-14, 2024, with the aim of enabling institute administration to assess the leadership quality of their faculty members. Prof. B. S. Sahay, the Director, IIM Jammu, presided over the inaugural ceremony. The second batch consisted of 29 participants from Institutes across India and is fully funded by Ministry of Education, Govt. of India.

Prof. B. S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, addressed the participants, emphasizing the IIM Jammu’s distinguished contribution as a premier management institution in the country. He encouraged active engagement in the program, fostering connections with fellow educators and IIM Jammu faculty, and reiterated their commitment to excellence and innovation in education. He remarked that the day marked a significant milestone in their journey towards educational excellence and leadership development. He mentioned that the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India embarked on a transformative initiative to cultivate academic leaders as catalysts for positive change. He, during his address, highlighted the acute shortage of leadership in academia and reiterated that teaching is a noble profession with a significant impact on students’ lives. He urged the participants to enjoy their stay, explore the state-of-the-art, “Nalanda” library at IIM Jammu, and wished them a pleasant stay on the campus.

The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp and a welcome address by Dr. Apurva, Program Director, IIM Jammu. He extended a heartfelt welcome, highlighted the program’s unique features and structure, and expressed his happiness at the launch of the Nurturing Future Leadership Program. He emphasized the program’s essential role in developing the next generation of academic leaders. He mentioned that their goal is to equip faculty with the leadership skills they need to excel in their academic journey and create effective learning environments for their students. The participants provided formal introductions, sharing details about themselves, their domains, and their respective institutes.

Dr. Ateeque Shaikh, Chairperson, Executive Education & Consulting (EE&C), IIM Jammu shared the institute’s unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality executive education by means of such leadership training and development programs. He highlighted the program’s features and IIM Jammu’s role in creating educational leaders through such initiatives. Present on the occasion were Dr. Kapil Manohar Ghumte, and Dr. Guangpuanang Kahmei, Program Directors, IIM Jammu.


The residential training program will be divided into four broad themes, such as leadership, communication, skill development, and recent government initiatives, and will feature four sessions each for the next five days. These sessions will include lectures, interactive workshops, group discussions, case studies, role-plays, and practical exercises to ensure active engagement and application of concepts. Participants will also have the opportunity to network with prominent experts and IIM Jammu faculty.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Naveen Goyal, Program Director, IIM Jammu. Finally, the inaugural program culminated with the National Anthem, filling the room with a sense of unity and pride. The participants also had the opportunity to visit the state-of-the-art library, Nalanda, at IIM Jammu, where they explored its extensive resources and innovative facilities.
