The Pakistan Army attacked on 22 October 1947 under the cover of the tribals as part of a conspiracy to capture Kashmir. Then Brigadier Rajendra Singh, the Chief of Staff of Maharaja Hari Singh’s army, took the front to stop five thousand enemy soldiers in the Uri sector with a contingent of 100 soldiers. He stopped the enemy for five days. To stop the enemies, he blew up the bridges in the area. On 26 October 1947, he sacrificed his life along with many of his comrades.
