In a big success, security forces today shot dead four top terrorists, including a Pak national, in two encounters in the valley and recovered from them a large quantity of arms & ammunition, besides warlike stores.
Three of them were eliminated at Awantipora in Pulwama district and one at Bijbehara in Anantnag district, according to officials.
Acting on a reliable information about the presence of terrorists at Awantipora, security forces rushed to the area in the evening and laid a cordon around it. While

the forces were tightening their cordon and slowing moving towards the suspected hideout of terrorists, they came under heavy fire, officials said.
Fire was returned. In the exchange of fire that ensued, three LeT terrorists, including a Pakistan, were eliminated by the forces.
One of the slain terrorists was a Pakistani and one was a local who was identified as Mukhtiyar Bhat. Other details were awaited.
Officials said Bhat was involved in several terror crimes, including the killing of one ASI of CRPF and two RPF personnel. “A big success for forces,” the officials added.
The operation was continuing till late tonight.
In the other gunfight, one terrorist was killed by security forces at Semthan in Bijbehara area.
“One terrorist killed in Bijbehara encounter. Operation going on. Further details shall follow,” police said in a tweet.
The operation was continuing when reports last came in.
