ARMY COMMANDER, WESTERN COMMAND ‘FLAGS IN’ ARMY MOTORCYCLE EXPEDITION : 25 YEARS OF KARGIL VIJAY.

  The Indian Army D5 Motorcycle Expedition arrived from Delhi and was ‘Flagged-In’ by Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, GOC-in-C, Western Command at Chandimandir Military Station on 28th June 2024. The event marked a significant pan-India journey to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Kargil victory. D5 Motorcycle Expedition is a set of three teams comprising of Indian Army soldiers, who commenced their journey from Dinjan in East, Dwarka in West and Dhanushkodi in South, traversing diverse and challenging terrains and reached Delhi on 26th June 2024. From Delhi, the expedition moved on two different routes, route ‘A’ was via Ambala – Amritsar – Jammu – Srinagar  and route ‘B’ was via Chandimandir – Manali – Leh  to ultimately reach the Kargil War Memorial at Dras by 10 July 2024. The expedition will help reconnect with Kargil gallantry awardees, veer naris and Ex – Servicemen besides create an awareness about Indian Army amongst the youth.

          The Team of route ‘B’ on arrival at Chandimandir,  interacted with Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, GOC-in-C, Western Command, General VP Malik (Retd), former Chief of Army Staff (Indian Army Chief during the Kargil Conflict) and other senior officers of Western Command.

Acknowledging the supreme sacrifice and patriotism of the Kargil heroes, a felicitation programme was organised to honour the Kargil war heroes, veer matas, veer naris, next of kin and war veterans which included Shri GL Batra, father of Late Captain Vikram Batra, Param vir Chakra and Smt Devku Devi, mother of Late Rifleman Shyam Singh, Vir Chakra.
