Kupwara : Under the aegis of the Civic Action Programme-2024, the District Police Kupwara held the inaugural ceremony of the Kupwara Police Cricket Tournament for Women today at the Sports Ground, DPL Kupwara. The tournament features eight women’s teams from across District Kupwara, providing a platform for girls to showcase their talent and encourage their participation in sports activities.
The Chief Guest, Sh.Shobhit Saksena-IPS, SSP Kupwara unveiled the trophy and kick-started the tournament. Speaking on the occasion, SSP Kupwara emphasized the importance of the initiative in promoting women’s sports and creating opportunities for young female athletes.
The inaugural match saw Growth Sports Academy triumph over Drugmullah Strikers. Chasing a target of 90 runs in 10 overs, Growth Sports Academy won by 7 wickets. Aiman Bashir was the standout performer, scoring 67 runs and taking 1 wicket, earning her the Player of the Match title.
The event was also attended by Sh. Gh Mohd Bhat-JKPS, Addl SP Kupwara, Amin Bhat-JKPS, DySP Hqr Kupwara, Syed Mujahid-ul-Haq-JKPS, DySP DAR Kupwara, along with other officers and officials from the District Police and District Youth Sports and Services.
